I have noticed on a few of the HP Elitebook’s that sometimes the screen resolution comes  up only using 80% of the screen width. This is an easy fix; just go into Control Panel, Device Manager, find the Display adapters section for the laptop, Properties, Uninstall and check Delete the driver software for this device.
On rebooting you should find that the laptop is now using the built-in Microsoft display driver and everything looks great. At this point you can choose to keep this driver or you could go the the HP support site and download the correct driver. If you get the same resolution problem again, just go through this procedure again and try a different driver from the HP site.
