LAST KNOWN GOOD – IN THE BOOT.INI

You can keep a Windows 2003 Server or XP machine in a permanent state of non-upgrade heaven by simply setting this in the boot.ini file:

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS=”Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server” /noexecute=optout /fastdetect /lastknowngood

And if you are wondering why, well sometimes if you have a system that is working fine but an upgrade has messed things up, you can just keep booting into the previous configuration automatically.
